BOTOX™ Cosmetic is a natural protein that works by blocking the conduction of nerve impulses at the point where the nerve joins the muscle. This results in a weakening of the contractile ability of that muscle. Since wrinkles form in response to the contractions of the thin muscles underlying the skin, the process of weakening the contractibility of these muscles decreases their associated wrinkles.
